I had a pleasant conversation with Luca Nichetto about his designs, who goes beyond the borders with his different and bold way of thinking. Published on Marie Claire Maison.
Venetian multidisciplinary designer Luca Nichetto started his design journey by being inspired by the famous Murano glassmaking industry, of which his family is also a part. Nichetto's work, which has gained a reputation as a multi-disciplinary designer who has also worked as the art director of many international design brands over the years, takes place in exhibitions held in metropolitan cities such as London, New York and Beijing and is the subject of retrospectives. His innovative projects, researched down to the smallest detail, range from product, accessory, furniture, architecture, exhibition design and branding. The designer is also the recipient of an impressive array of international awards. Luca Nichetto continues to cooperate with the world's leading brands.
You have a deep passion for industrial and artisanal production processes; How do you combine these elements with your designs? And how do you think this evolution will continue with the acceleration in technology?
In my opinion, one cannot design without respecting and understanding the craftsmanship. I design for different brands and use very different materials; It is very important to first understand the material, such as glass or ceramics. Time should be spent and integrated into the design itself and its form in the most correct way. I love this process, it's really a time to learn a lot. Of course, the most important thing is to combine all the elements correctly, a good designer does not only make aesthetic decisions (such as color, form), there are many details to consider, such as the aesthetic dimension of the work, function and sustainability. All these balances should be taken into account and the design should be made.
